Customers tick “I have read and agree to the Privacy Policy and Terms of Service” before they can check out. The checkbox sits directly above the checkout button on the cart page and in the cart drawer, and the button stays disabled until it is ticked.
A cart checkbox alone can be skipped: express buttons, Buy it now and direct checkout links all go around the cart. Terms & Checkbox adds a Shopify checkout rule that stops any checkout without a current consent, on every Shopify plan.
The consent version and time are saved on each order. Turn on enhanced record keeping to also keep a server record of which text was accepted — without storing any personal data about your customers.

Can customers skip the checkbox with Shop Pay or a direct checkout link?
No. Those buttons can be hidden in the cart, and the checkout rule stops any checkout that has no current consent, whichever way the customer got there.
Is the checkbox shown inside checkout?
No. It is shown in the cart and in the cart drawer. Checkout shows your error message only if someone reaches it without ticking the box.
Do I need to edit my theme?
No. Turn on the app embed in the theme editor. On themes where the checkbox is not placed automatically, add the cart block or enter the button selectors in Theme and troubleshooting.
Is a consent record legal proof?
It shows which text was accepted and when, but it is not legal proof on its own. It supports your own legal assessment.
Is there a free trial?
Yes, 7 days. The app is free on development stores.
